Oculus headsets will soon require a Facebook account

Today, Oculus announced some important updates to how people log into Oculus devices, while still keeping their VR profile. Starting in October 2020, everyone using an Oculus device for the first time will need to log in with a Facebook account.

All existing users who already have an Oculus account will have the option to log in with Facebook and merge their Oculus and Facebook accounts. All existing users who choose not to merge their accounts will have the option to continue using their Oculus account for two years.

After January 1, 2023, support will end for all Oculus accounts. Those who choose not to merge their accounts at that time will be allowed to continue using their device, but full functionality will require a Facebook account.

According to Oculus — “Giving people a single way to log into Oculus—using their Facebook account and password— will make it easier to find, connect, and play with friends in VR.”

Epic Games has filed a temporary restraining order against Apple

Following Fortnite developer Epic Games move last Thursday to break Apple’s policy by allowing players on iOS to directly purchase items in-game and bypass a 30% cut taken by Apple, the developer announced on Monday that it is seeking a temporary restraining order to prevent the tech giant from removing the game from its App Store.

PGA Tour 2K21 shaping up to be the best golf game in years

It looks like golf video games may finally be making their return to the heights they once knew. A genre once dominated by EA for more than two decades with triple-A games including the Tiger Woods series, the company decided to vacate the category following a luke warm reception to the 2015 release of Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. In their absence, HB Studios has slowly grown a new series known as a The Golf Club, with the latest game in series finally achieving a deal for officially licensed courses from the PGA Tour and accordingly reclaiming the series namesake.

A recent announcement from 2K claims that 15 PGA TOUR courses and 14 PGA Tournaments will be available when PGA TOUR 2K21 hits the market on August 21st. It will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, and Windows.

The latest update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on Xbox One is a whopping 66GB

The latest update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on Xbox One requires a whopping 66GB download, far larger than the required download sizes of its PlayStation 4 and PC counterparts.

The update, which applies several general fixes, including the removal of some maps from certain game modes, requires only a 1.2GB download on PlayStation 4 and 1.83GB download on PC. Infinity Ward blames “an unforeseen bug” with Microsoft’s patch delivery process for the excessive download size on Xbox One.

Infinity Ward assures Xbox One players that the 66GB download will not affect the overall install size of Modern Warfare or the free-to-play battle royale counterpart, Warzone, which will take up to 183GB and 99.5GB, respectively, after completing the update. This issue is a result of Xbox One players being required to re-download certain files, not add more files to their console’s hard drive.
